Is television unnecessary? three advantages of not watching TV

Thank you for reading my blog.

Some of you may be thinking,

“I spend a lot of time watching TV at home.”

“I spend too much time in front of the TV with my phone in my hand.”

“I have dreams and goals, but I can’t find the time to achieve them.”

We spend a lot of time watching TV when we realize we have a lot of time.

However, we must never forget that our life time is limited.

So, in this article, we will tell you about three advantages of not watching TV by not watching TV.

By reading this article, you will you will recognize that time is your most important asset, and you will be able to reduce the amount of time you waste.

We have often become time-wasting professionals.

I hope you will take this opportunity to review how you use your time.

So let’s get started and check it out.

Ask yourself if you really need a TV

Please answer the following question first.

“Do you own a television?”

‘ ‘Why did you buy a television and why do you watch television?’

Probably few people have ever thought about this question. Most households have a TV, and we have watched TV as a matter of course since we were small children.

Think of it as a good opportunity to think about it for a while.

If you cannot give a clear answer, or if you cite the reason that everyone around you is watching TV, there is a very good chance that you do not need a TV.

On the other hand, there are some people who watch TV for a clear purpose.

For example, if you have a family, you may take time for family gatherings while watching TV.

I am not at all suggesting that those who say that time spent watching TV is important should get rid of it.

What I am saying is that the time wasted in life should be reduced as much as possible. And the time that people waste the most is probably the time they spend at home watching TV.

And if you are watching TV for no particular reason, I would like you to rethink how you spend your time.

Think about whether it is really necessary for you. This is true for everything, not just TV.

Benefits of not watching television

What are some of the benefits of not watching television?

Based on my experience of not watching TV, I can say that there are three benefits.

  1. You can concentrate on myself.
  2. You will have more time to yourself.
  3. You can stabilize your emotional/mental state.

Let’s review each of these in detail.

1.You can concentrate on myself.

While television is a constant stream of information that is not relevant to you, by stopping watching television, you can spend your time on things that are relevant to you and that you can influence.

You can play with friends, travel, read, study, etc.

Those times can be happy times and good memories, or they can improve your value as knowledge and skills.

You will soon forget what you watched on TV yesterday, but what you gained from traveling and studying will last a lifetime.

2.You will have more time to yourself.

Today we have become professionals at wasting time, but I believe that our most important asset is our time.

We need to minimize the amount of time we waste.

If you watch TV for one hour a day, you will spend about four years of your life watching TV in total (assuming you live for 100 years).

Is that really a good life?

It seems like a waste to spend a few years of your one and only life watching TV.

3.You can stabilize your emotional/mental state.

When we watch the news, we tend to feel negative emotions.

If you don’t watch TV, such emotional swings will disappear and you will be more stable.

This mental stability allows you to focus more on yourself.

Don’t watch news programs.

I believe that it is best not to watch television, especially news programs.

I think so for the following two reasons.

  • Most of the content are irrelevant to me.
  • Most of them generate negative emotions.

▪Most of the content are irrelevant to me.

There is no point in getting information about things that are not relevant to me or about the extent to which I cannot influence them.

Even if you were to learn about something happening on the other side of the world that you have no control over or that has no impact on you, you can hardly expect it to outweigh the knowledge you gain from reading in the same amount of time.

▪Most of them generate negative emotions.

Taking advantage of the psychological tendency that people are easily interested in negative things, news and news programs deal with a lot of negative things.

If you watch news with negative content, you are making yourself unhappy. Where is the need to go out of your way to learn what you would have preferred not to know?

Also, there is data that shows that when a negative incident occurs, similar incidents occur in rapid succession.

This is said to be due to what is called the “social proof principle”.

For example, when a violent incident occurs, people who watch the news are more likely to engage in violent behavior.

Furthermore, research has shown that the more similar a person’s characteristics are to those of the perpetrator of that violent incident, the more likely they are to increase their probability of doing so.

Science has shown that we all have these traits, even if we think we are fine, and there is no way to prevent them except to stop watching the news.

Even though the media people know that this is harmful, they will not stop reporting negative news for the sake of numbers (ratings and money).

–Postscript–

In this article, I have summarized the reasons why we do not need television.

If you think you don’t need TV after reading this article, first try to make time to not watch TV, even if it is only for an hour.

Then, once you get used to it, try making a day when you don’t watch TV at all, even if it is just for a day.

You will find that you can go a whole day without any problems at all.

Once you get used to such a day, you can sell the TV and put it away.

I have also been a TV kid since I was a child, but I haven’t watched TV at all for the past six months or so, and I have put the TV away.

I have not had any problems at all in my life, and I feel that there are many good things about it.

As stated in this article, I have more time available for myself.

This is not a sensation, but a number that became clear as a result of actually recording my daily activities.

The amount of time that I spend somewhat somehow has greatly decreased.

I also feel that my emotional/mental state has become much more stable.

When I watch the news, there are still many negative events that are reported, and my mind is often moved in a negative direction.

However, since I no longer watch TV, I am able to focus only on myself and my immediate surroundings, and I no longer have unnecessary emotional swings.

And my emotional swings are now only for things that are relevant to me.

I feel that the information society has become so advanced that we know too much that we don’t need to know.

I think it would be enough if we were to focus on what kind of life we want to lead and what we want to become, and gather only the information we need to achieve that.

I don’t think there is enough time in life to spend on what is happening on the other side of the world.

I think that you can devote as much time as you want to what is happening on the other side of the world only after you have reached your dreams and goals.

How we spend our time, I think, should be our number one priority.

Whether you need or don’t need a TV is not a big issue.

It is how you use your finite time that is important, and that is for you to decide, not anyone else.

I will end with a quote from Seneca.

It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.

Let us reevaluate how we spend our time, not only the time we spend watching TV, but also how we spend our time so that we can spend it in a more fulfilling way.

Thank you again for reading to the end of this article.

See you in my next post!
