Simple Idea Generation Method: Write a word next to each other.

Thank you for reading my blog.

“I can’t come up with good ideas.”

“I want to be able to think deeply and broadly.”

Everyone thinks like this.

In fact, there is a very easy way to achieve this.

So, this time, I would like to share with you a simple idea generation method.

The content of this issue is based on a talk by Toshiyuki Konishi.

Mr. Konishi has produced commercials for TOYOTA and other companies, won numerous advertising awards, and produced and branded numerous stores and commercial buildings.

Let’s check out Mr. Konishi’s simple idea generation method that anyone can use.

What to write to generate ideas?

All you need to prepare is paper and pen.

Now, let’s quickly conclude.

First write the thing you want to think about on a piece of paper.

Then, write the word “life” next to it.

That’s it.

“What do you mean?”

Most of you probably thought so.

In the next part, we will explain with an example.

Specific Method

For example, write on the left side of the paper the product or other product you want to sell at your company, and on the right side of the paper, write “life”.

For example, let’s think about Coke.

Let’s say you are an employee of Coca-Cola and you have an idea for a project to sell Coke.

You write “Coke” on the left side and “life” on the right side, and then think of something that exists between the two and write it down.

Instead of thinking about the taste, goodness, benefits, or price of Coke, you think about what exists between someone’s life and Coke.

It might be a Coke as a drink for college students playing games at home with their friends, or simply a Coke for high school students on their way home from club activities.

Thinking only about the product will produce only conventional ideas, but by connecting the product to someone’s life, a story is created.

By connecting the product to someone’s life, a story is created.

Instead of thinking mainly about the product you want to sell, think about the people who use the product and the lives of the people who use it.

This alone will enrich your ability to come up with new ideas and your imagination.

–Postscript–

In this issue, we have told you about an idea generation method that anyone can use, which is practiced by Mr. Konishi, a copywriter/creative director who is active in the front lines of the industry.

It is a very simple method of adding “life” to a piece of paper.

It is very effective not only for generating ideas, but also when you want to think about something or use your imagination, so please give it a try.

Let me conclude with a quote from Momofuku Ando, founder of Nissin Foods.

You cannot think about things vaguely. It is only when you keep thinking single-mindedly that ideas will suddenly come to you during sleep.

Thank you again for reading to the end of this article.

See you in my next post!
